BSides Philly 2025 - Write Up
07 December 2025
I was given the opportunity to attend BSides
Philadelphia and was able to compete in a CTF. I
took home 3rd place playing by myself. I meant to form a group but I didn’t get
around to it. The below is my write up for a couple of the problems I solved. I
forgot to do the write up while I was there, so I apologize for not sharing the
exact names of the challenges. I was also able to attend a couple of talks
there.

How I Updated Ruby on My Arch Box Cause the System One Was Out of Date
15 April 2024
I just moved my laptop to run an arch derivative because I got a new SSD
installed for more exiciting projects. To my surprise the current version of
ruby in the repos was out of date by 9 months. So I had to learn how to use
rbenv in order to build my blog and deploy new posts. It’s just like virtual
environments with python, but unfamiliar because I only use ruby because I did
this site in Jekyll, and to migrate would defeat the purpose of this site which
is to share my writing and show off the cool things I built.

The Magic of Beer Can Chicken
19 March 2024
Beer can chicken and it’s derivatives are my favorite thing to cook. I have
laid out in this post some notes on cooking it well, and how to do it right.
It’s not something that is explained easily or obviously. These are my personal
notes on how I do it, and will be updated as I learn new things about it.

the tools I need to maintain this website installed. Documented below
are the steps I took to solve it.

Finding Jekyll Posts to Update With Cover Images
10 January 2021
I recently updated my site to make use of cover images on the post
listing. I wanted to make sure that I got all of the posts that need to
be updated. I used grep to find posts which had an image in them, but no
cover attribute in their front-matter.

Yetris Review - A Fantastic Terminal Tetris
08 December 2020
Yetris is a very cool tetris clone for the terminal. It features
colors and a neat interface with lots of levels. I really enjoy playing
it, but I always forget the name of the program, so I’m making a post so
I don’t forget what’s it called.

Atlantic Pie
22 November 2020
I made some Atlantic pie recently with a few modifications. I think it
turned out pretty good. I basically followed the New York Times
recipe. I wanted to make something using saltine crackers. This turned
out to be way easier than expected.
